How to get to Boipeba — traveller’s guide

No cars on the island. You arrive by sea — or, for the fastest shortcut, by air. This page is the traveller’s view: pace, connections and what belongs in the bag.

The main ways

Ferry + transfer + boat

The most common. Salvador → ferry to Bom Despacho (Itaparica) → car, van or bus to Valença, Graciosa or Torrinhas → boat to Boipeba. Typical total time: around 4h to 6h. Valença has more infrastructure and schedules; Graciosa and Torrinhas usually mean shorter final crossings.

Direct boat Salvador → Boipeba

Sea crossing without Itaparica. More frequent in high season; subject to open sea and, sometimes, a minimum group. Typical time around 2h to 2h30. Confirm availability for your date.

Air taxi

Short flight in a small aircraft to Boipeba's airstrip — around 25 minutes. The fastest and most scenic route. Charter / on request; luggage limits apply.

By car to the mainland + boat

Around the bay via BR-324/BA-001 to Valença, Graciosa or Torrinhas, without the ferry. Longer overland leg; paid parking on the mainland — cars do not go to the island.

Via Morro de São Paulo

Those already in Morro can take a 4x4 to the southern tip of Tinharé and cross by boat to Boipeba. Total duration often cited at around 1h to 1h30, subject to local transfer operations.

Private house boat

Door to door on your schedule — Valença, Graciosa, Torrinhas or Morro. On request. No reliance on public boats or minimum groups.

What to pack for the crossing

  • ID and proof of ticket or transfer.
  • Sunscreen, hat, water — the sun on the bay and river is strong.
  • Cash or card for parking and mainland connections, if needed.
  • Luggage that rolls on sand or that someone can carry: on the island, the final leg is on foot, by trolley or with help from the house.

Tide and landing

Some landings and crossings depend on tide and weather. Authorised operators and the house boat help fit the best time. If the sea is rough (more common in certain months), plans may change — flexibility is part of island travel.

After landing

From Boca da Barra or the agreed meeting point to Verde e Mar: minutes. The house sits 50 metres from the beach, right in the middle of island life. We arrange the meet-up.

Clarity over improvisation

Share arrival date, party size and whether you’re coming from Salvador, the airport or Morro. We’ll suggest the most comfortable route and confirm everything beforehand.
